Greetings Sisters and Supporters:
On the afternoon of April 27, 2017, I was joined at Worcester Wimple Wonderland by Postulants Esther O. Gen and Harrie Magdalene for facing in support of the Greater Boston PFLAG Pride & Passion 2017: 15th Annual Benefit and Auction. We arrived via private vehicle at the event venue where we were joined by Sister Eunice X (FPM Sponsor).
Though our tasks for the evening were typical gala tasks–greeters, silent auction hawkers, donation takers, live auction bid spotters–the event itself was very different from other galas we support. Because this was the first time the Sisters had participated in a GBP event, we spent much of the evening explaining to its 600 guests who we were and what we do. We were met with some of the warmest smiles and heartfelt thanks from the heterosexual community I’ve ever experienced. Many were so enthralled by the story of Sistery that they asked multiple questions and spent several minutes wanting to learn more about everything from the process, our different level and meaning of makeup, to the charities to which we give grants.
I’m proud to say that the sisters helped this incredible organization beat all previous records as the evening raised more than $730,000 in support of LGBTQ youth.
In return for our support, GBP provided a half-page ad in this year’s program, validated parking, two drink tickets per nun, recognition from the stage, and dinner.
Greater Boston PFLAG has already asked us to return next year.
At the end of the evening we thanked guests for coming. And, we ourselves were sent off with waves from a dozen or so organizers and volunteers. We left uplifted and proud to have been a part of such an incredible event.
