On a gorgeous and sunny May 11th [after finding street parking right by the venue!], Sisters Gloria LeLuia and Sandra Musique arrived at Club Café for another monthly Bingo! Once there, they were greeted by Novice Shiny Brite, Postulant Grace A’Gawd, and Aspirant Devin. They were also met by Bingo co-host Mizery, and special guest, Saint Gigi Gill.
After setting up the “Gloria hole” [Club Café’s coat check room, which Sister Gloria takes over for a night as Bingo-Central] and running around selling tickets, a speed round of Bingo was held, the winner receiving a coupon for Club Café. The night’s benefactor was Waltham House, an organization which “provides a seamless continuum of vital programs and services for every stage of child and family development. For more than 200 years, we’ve earned a reputation for doing whatever it takes to strengthen vulnerable families and keep children safe in their own communities, even when they don’t have family support.”
Our third round of the evening was called by Bingo newcomer Postulant Grace A’Gawd. She was nervous at first to be taking the microphone with seasoned pro Mizery, but after the nerves settled down, she did an amazing job calling the numbers and throwing out a few mildly offensive and raunchy jokes … just the way we like them. Another relative newbie to the fold who impressed us all this evening was Aspirant Devin who spent the entire evening mingling with the patrons, making them laugh, and squeezing them for every dollar they had. A large chunk of the money raised was filtered through him and we appreciate every dollar.
After a couple of hours of Bingo, The Sisters took an hour hiatus for the airing of RuPaul’s Drag Race; now down to its final five contestants. The crowd was over the moon about the “Hello Kitty” themed challenge which had each queen create a runway look using Hello Kitty paraphernalia. Unfortunately, it was the end of Boston’s own drag superstar, Katya, who was eliminated this week. The entire room began yelling at the TV screen and telling RuPaul she got it wrong.
Following the emotional end of Drag Race, The Sisters resumed their high energy Bingo. Finally, at around eleven o’clock, Sisters Sandra and Gloria decided that the crowd had had enough and called it a night. All in all, The Sisters raised $600 for Waltham House, getting us one step closer to our goal of $50,000 by the year’s end!
