On a snowy and wet December eighth, Sisters Rosetta Stone and Gloria LeLuia arrived at Club Café to begin getting ready for yet another Sister Bingo. This month’s beneficiary was The Boston Sisters’ very own “Sister Santa Program”. Each year, a number of children are placed into foster care in Massachusetts during November and December. Because of this, they often have very poor Christmas holidays. For the third year in a row, The Boston Sisters have teamed with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF) to ensure that these kids get at least two presents, a personalized stocking, and a Christmas card.
Around 7:15, Rosie and Gloria were joined by Saint Constance the B-9 and began Bingo. A special “early-bird” round was played by Constance while Rosie and Gloria set up; the prize for this round was an entrée of the winner’s choosing from Club Café’s menu. Soon after, Postulants Angela Merci and Shiny Brite arrived and began selling Bingo cards and wrangling the presents and wrapping paper that patrons had brought. Sisters Eunice X, KrisTall Mighty, Luvinya Always, and Tori D’Affair then joined the event and used their incredible selling abilities to push cards and get donations.
The Sisters were also joined in the audience by a few members of a volunteer group called “Gay For Good” (G4G). Gloria introduced them and passed the microphone so they could speak about what types of volunteer work they do, how people can help, and upcoming events they will be working at. They also donated a prize pack containing a G4G logo tee shirt, a G4G logo baseball cap, and a $25 gift certificate to Rattlesnake Bar & Grill. After the boys were done with their elevator speech, Gloria and Angela hosted a special round in their honor. First, Gloria made any number ending in 4 wild (in honor of G4G), then she announced that the first person to punch any number in their G column (G4G) could run up to the podium for a bonus prize. This got a lot of people excited and one nearly bowled Angela over in the excitement.
The Sisters also introduced a new game to Sister Bingo:
“Luvinya’s Orgy” where Sister Luvinya Always announced that the first person to “punch fifteen holes” would be the winner. Many jokes about hole-punching commenced and the audience found the round hilarious and thrilling; it was a bit of a speed round as well.
“Rosetta’s Ten for Ten at Ten” and “Gloria’s Let’s Make a Deal” were also played, much to the excitement of the crowd.
By the end of the evening, The Sisters raised just under $750 in cash and credit card donations, enough to buy presents for 18 kids! They also received four plastic totes and numerous shopping bags full of donated gifts. It was a huge success and everyone had a ton of fun.
