On Thursday, January 23, Point Nun Sister Eunice X was joined at The Convent by Novice Sisters Lida Christ and Gloria Leluya, as well as Postulant Agnes Dei, for communal facing. NSr. Lida was kind enough to drive us to the Fenway building on Boylston for the PrEP forum, and we were right on time.
At the opening reception, we welcomed attendees, made certain each person received a raffle ticket for the door prize Into The Habit decks as well as a single complementary playing card, and also handed out question cards in advance of the discussion.
The forum itself was outstanding. Following a brief introduction to the facts about PrEP by a Fenway medical professional, there was an open and insightful panel discussion including a “magnetic” (sero-discordant) couple and two young men. At the close, Sr. Eunice introduced The Boston Sisters and conducted a drawing for the door prizes.
The most important points I took away from the discussion were (1) a meaningful subsection of gay men do not use condoms or at least strongly prefer not to and (2) many people are quite uninformed about the availability and potential benefits of PrEP. The Sisters will now discuss the possibility of an information campaign, to absolutely not be restricted to the gay community!
We were very well received, and after the event we returned to The Convent for defacing. And there was much rejoicing!
